February 2008

Quick Facts:

Arts Day will take place on Monday, February 25 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Rotunda of the State House.

The event had to be rescheduled from February 28 because the legislature will not be in session that day.

The Indiana Coalition for the Arts was born in 2006 as two long-time arts service organizations came together: Arts Alliance Indiana and Indiana Advocates for the Arts. Together, the new Arts Coalition (INCA) combines resources with the Indiana Coalition for the Arts Foundation (INCAF) to advocate, educate and act on behalf of the arts in Indiana.

Arts Day at the State House February 25

Once a year, arts advocates from around Indiana descend on the Statehouse in Indianapolis to talk with members of the State Legislature. You are invited to participate in 2008!

The Indiana Coalition for the Arts will celebrate the arts with Arts Day at the Statehouse on Monday February 25, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Rotunda of the State House.  The event had to be rescheduled from February 28 because the legislature will not be in session that day.

Arts Day brings together hundreds of artists, arts administrators, and arts business owners from across the state and their state legislators to inform them about the positive impact of the arts on Hoosier lives, communities, and the state's economy.

The event will also include the awarding of the Community Arts Leadership Awards. The Indiana Coalition for the Arts Foundation (INCAF) will honor individuals who have contributed to the arts in four categories: Arts Administrator, Arts Educator, Arts Advocate, and Volunteer Board Member or Arts Leader.

Recipients of the awards will not only be recognized during the ceremony, but will be introduced later in the afternoon before both the House and Senate.

Representatives from Indiana’s arts communities are urged to participate in two ways: (1) Register to attend. Arts Day is free and open to all Hoosier arts advocates. (2) Invite your State Senator and State Representative to attend.  A link is available on the INCA website to invite your elected officials and let them know that you support the arts in Indiana.

As part of the Arts Day activities, the Indianapolis Museum of Art will hold a reception for Indiana’s legislators on the evening of Monday, February 25th.  The public reception begins at 5:30.  Arts representatives are encouraged to attend.
