Wapakoneta Gaining a Home for the Arts

A group of committed artists is working hard in Wapakoneta, Ohio. With the help of Wapakoneta business person Pam Doepker, architect and free-lance artist John Raush and some other area artists recently formed an artist's center. The former Wapakoneta Artists Group, now formally known as Riverside Art Center, is coming to life.

The goal of the Riverside Art Center (RAC) is to promote the arts through community involvement. Their slogan is “Let Your Creativity Flow!” Along with providing a home for the arts in downtown Wapakoneta, the center hopes to improve the downtown image and bring in more commerce.

For more information on Riverside Art Center contact John Rausch, President, at 419-738-6783, via email: jrausch1@woh.rr.com ; or Debra Henkener at 419-738-5213, via email: info@henkenerlogcabin.com.

Arts Place Executive Director Eric Rogers provided technical assistance on the project. Rogers gave a presentation to the group in early February on structuring community arts organizations. Armed with a list of resources and ideas, the group is focusing in on their purpose and goals.

Starting an arts center can be a lengthy process. The organization is working to secure a building that could be used as a gallery, workshop spaces, and studios. If all goes well, the artists will have a nice place to work, study, and display their finished pieces. In addition, work is in progress on strategic planning, future fundraising efforts, membership, and a multitude of other important topics. According to Debra Henkener, the board of directors is confident that most of these will be accomplished in the next few months.

Congratulations to the Riverside Art Center and Good Luck!
