Built in 1923 and dedicated in 1926, Cornerstone
Center for the Arts is a beautiful 125,000 square
foot building decorated in Gothic Revival style with
artistic wall murals, gold leaf designs, and
decorative molding.

Cornerstone CEO Receives Community Arts Leadership
Award
Cornerstone Center for the Arts
in Muncie, Indiana, is an exciting blend of arts
programming for all persons. Committed to the
well-being of the individual, Cornerstone’s mission
is to nurture community connections by providing
opportunities for creative expression, educational
programs, and events in a historic setting.
Terry Whitt Bailey, CEO of
Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie recently
received the Community Arts Leadership Award for
Arts Educator by the
Indiana Coalition for the Arts
Foundation.
The Awards were presented in a public ceremony
during Arts Day at the Statehouse on Monday,
February 25th.
As
CEO of Muncie's Cornerstone Center for the Arts,
Terry Whitt Bailey has redefined arts education by
expanding and developing new arts programs for
people of all ages. Bailey has grown the programs
known as ARK (Artists Reaching Out to Kids) and the
401 (k)ids Arts Scholarship Program. Under her
leadership, the center has introduced its first
juried art show, a weekend Black History
celebration, and the Harvest Moon Film Festival.
Cornerstone Center for the Arts welcomes over 3,000
students each year into the arts education classes
and programs, and spans all ages from infant to
adult. Over 75 classes and workshops are offered
each session in such art forms as music, theatre,
visual arts, Kindermusik©, writing, martial arts,
film, and language. Private lessons are also offered
in sign language, strings, guitar, voice, trumpet,
saxophone, drums, and piano.
Cornerstone Center for the Arts is a hub of activity
and welcomes over 90,000 people through its doors
each year. Cornerstone hosts hundreds of events and
groups including weddings, receptions, training
seminars, concerts, performances, community
meetings, proms, and more.
Cornerstone is also home to several resident
organizations and groups hosting regular events and
classes. They include: Community Center for Vital
Aging, East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra, Ivy
Tech Community College, Magic City Music Men,
Masterworks Chorale, Muncie Ballet Company, Muncie
Masonic Association, Northwood University, and Third
Age Theatre.
