The museum opened its doors in 1977 in the old Petty and Walgreen’s buildings in downtown Muncie. The new $3,000,000 facility opened to the community in June of 1996.

Museum members receive free admission into over 250 museums across the United States through the reciprocal membership program.

The Muncie Children’s Museum, located in downtown Muncie, Indiana, is more than a Museum. It offers something for the entire family - exhibits, teen programs, special events, and an outdoor learning center to delight everyone from the curious toddler to the adult nature lover.

A variety of activities take place at the Museum. Not only is the Museum a great place to visit and encourage children and students to learn through hands-on exhibits, the Museum also serves as a resource for teachers with its field trip program. Special events are scheduled throughout the year.

This summer’s special events include the Sensational Summer Camps, a week full of activities, crafts, special guests and field trips. This year camps included: Young Naturalist Camp, June 12-16; Rocks, Bones and Homes, June 26-30; Meet the Masters, July 10-14; and Make It Move, July 17-21. This activity is funded through the Indiana Arts Commission’s Regional Arts Partnership.

For a special family treat don’t miss DeFur Voran Family Saturdays at the Muncie Children's Museum. Spend a day at the Museum and have a blast exploring the exhibits and participating in the daily activity. Local law firm DeFur Voran, celebrating their 100th Anniversary, announced in February they would underwrite the last Saturday of each month through December, allowing the Museum to open its doors for free to thousands of children and adults in East Central Indiana and beyond.
