Session Description: These
panelists represent communities that are
actively promoting the arts to increase
tourism. This panel will discuss how
convention and visitors bureaus should be
engaged in developing the arts as well as
strategies to encourage cultural tourism.

Sherry Timms – Director, Ohio County CVB
Session Description: This session
will focus on Rising Sun’s Arts as Economics
program. Sherry Timms will discuss challenges
in building artist communities in rural areas,
as well as the benefits of bringing artists to a
small town.

panelists represent cultural districts in
Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky. The districts are
at different levels of development and in cities
of various sizes. The three speakers will
present strategies for successful cultural
district development that are sure to speak to
communities of all sizes!

Dr. Michael Rushton – Director, Arts
Administration Program, Indiana University
Session Description: Dr. Rushton
will discuss cultural, social, and economic
issues that communities must address when
planning for a cultural district. He will
stress the importance of developing a cultural
district that fits into a community’s long term
vision for its future.

Commission
Session Description: Ron Carter
will discuss how a community must develop a
clear vision for its future—and how the arts
must have a role in that future!
